Contemporary Minimally Invasive Treatment Concepts in Supportive Periodontal Therapy
a joint scientific meeting of the Hellenic, German and Polish Academies of Aesthetic Dentistry
Novel preventive treatment concepts should be painless, minimally invasive and easily incorporated into an existing dental operatory set-up; additionally, our patients should willingly accept them. This presentation highlights scientific evidence and contemporary clinical protocols focusing on the intraoral applications of painless ultrasonic technology and air polishing. The use of Vector ultrasonic technology is effective, painless, time-saving and leaves smooth root surfaces after treatment. Air polishing is applied to effectively remove biofilm, improve oral hygiene and arrest periodontal destruction. Additionally these novel techniques offer optimal patient comfort and minimal hard tissue removal. Critical clinical steps, such as the use of individual diagnostic tools to identify oral biofilm and enhance patient motivation towards improving oral hygiene will be discussed. Peri-implantitis pathogenesis and prevention protocols will be addressed. The significance of supportive periodontal therapy, as well as scientific evidence on the interaction between oral health and general health disorders will be discussed in detail.
